Twilight – A look Back at Part 1

9 September 2009 336 views No Comment

The Twilight Saga series first became known to us as a series of books aimed at teenagers, written by Stephenie Meyer. The books became so popular that the first book titled “Twilight” got adapted to film and directed by Catherine Hardwicke in November 2008. Now as we eagerly await for the second adaption “New Moon” to hit the big screen, why don’t we take a look back at what made the first film so popular with millions around the world.

At the beginning of Twilight we see a young girl called Bella Swan move to the small town of “Forks”, to live with her dad who just so happens to be the local sheriff. On her first day in school Bella finds herself drawn to a pale brooding boy called “Edward”. However the feeling doesn’t appear to be mutual, because in fact on first sight Bella seems to make Edward feel slightly sick.

We later learn that the reason why Edward appears repulsed by Bella, is because he is a vampire, and is drawn to the sweet smell of her blood. He finds himself struggling to contain himself, which in turn leads to his desire and his love for her to grow stronger. Bella also finds herself falling in love with him, which leads her into danger with other not so scrupulous vampires.

The first film in the Twilight Saga series really is a sort of vampire Romeo and Juliet type film. Edward and Bella are star crossed lovers who are destined to be together, but somehow find themselves torn apart. I won’t give the ending of the film away, in case you have yet to watch it. However you will find Edward not only battling with evil vampires who are out to get Bela, but also with his own desire to drink her blood.
